Tell us about your job.

I am an Extension Agent with the Mississippi State University Extension Service. I cover all topics related to family & consumer science for Pearl River county. This includes nutrition, food safety, parenting, sewing, career and economic development, financial management and anything else someone in the county needs information about.

What do you find most interesting about your job?

The most interesting part of my job is that no two days are the same.

How did you get into this field?

My BS is in physical education, biology and athletic training. I always wanted to help people live a healthy lifestyle. I taught high school for 1 year and found that was not for me. I went back to college and got my MS in Fitness Management. I worked for 11 years at a hospital fitness center. While there I got my MPH in Nutrition and became a registered dietitian. I worked as a diabetic educator, ran a cardiac rehab facility and did general clinical at several hospitals before my life was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. After returning to MS. I was recruited to be an Area Agent teaching nutrition and food safety in 11 counties. About 2 years ago they reorganized and now I cover just one county.

Where were you born and raised?

I was born and raised in northern Michigan but have been on the Gulf Coast since 1985.

Where did you go to college and/or complete an intership?

My BS is from Central Michigan, MS from the United States Sports Academy in Mobile, Al, and my MPH is from Tulane University School of Public Health in New Orleans.

Besides your profession, what are your hobbies?

I enjoy most sports, snow skiing, gardening, dancing and cross stitch.

What are your favorite foods?

All seafood and chocolate.

What is on your bucket list?

To see as many National and State parks in the US as I can.

How long have you been a member of NEP, and why did you join?

I have been a member of NEP since joining Extension services about 9 years ago. I use the information from NEP to inform the public.

Are there any other interesting things you would like to share with NEP members?

I have a side business due to my husband being disabled. I sell knives, swords, etc. at gun shows in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. I specialize in pretty knives for women (pink especially), dragon, zombies and other fun collectables.
